AGILE: Bauchi reviews safe school modules to empower girls

The Bauchi state government says it has reviewed safe pace modules to enhance access to quality education for women and girls.

Mrs. Sabuwa Tahir, the Component Lead, Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bauchi.

She said the exercise was conducted between Feb. 21 and Feb. 24 in secondary schools across the 20 local government areas of the state.

Tahir said the AGILE project was implementing the life skill and empowerment scheme in partnership with Syndicate In Supporting Women and Children Initiative (SISWACHI) to promote safe space in schools.

Also speaking, Maryam Mohammed, SISWACHI Project Coordinator, said the review exercise was designed to expose the participants and other stakeholders to the safe space manuals before it become operational.

“The girls targeted for theis safe space are senior secondary I & II, in line with AGILE objectives to improve educational outcomes and empower adolescent girls through a holistic approach under sub-component (2.2a) life skills component,

“Two female guidance & gounselors in each participating school and community mentor will serve as the facilitators for the SS 1 and SS 2 female students.

“The safe space module intend to provide the girls with a secure environment to acquire essential life skills, build self-confidence, access mentorship that equips them for future opportunities, among others,” she said.
