The Anambra State Homeland Security Agency, popularly known as Agunechemba, is set to interrogate two of its operatives and a woman who accused them of allegedly using her husband’s arrest to cover up alleged wrongdoing in Uli, Ihiala Local Council of the state.

The woman, Ifeoma Onyemee, from Eziama village, Uli, had accused Kenneth Obiwulu, popularly known as Udo, and AK Irobi, known as AK, of allegedly orchestrating the arrest of her husband, Chimobi Onyemee, after he petitioned authorities over alleged misconduct by the duo.

Mrs Onyemee, who spoke with journalists on Sunday, alleged that her husband petitioned the Anambra State Commissioner of Police and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, on July 24, 2026, detailing what she described as alleged abuses by the operatives.

She alleged that they subsequently arrested her husband and took him to the Rapid Response Squad headquarters in Awkuzu, accusing him of murdering a man in Uli in 2022.

According to her, the murder allegation was raised only after her husband had complained about the operatives’ alleged activities.

“Precisely on July 24, 2026, my husband, Chimobi Onyemee, sent a petition to the Anambra Police Commissioner and Prince Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security.

“In that petition, my husband detailed the things these people were allegedly doing in the name of Agunechemba Community Security in Uli.

“Specifically, the two were accused of operating private cells in their houses and bushes around Uli, where they allegedly detained people and collected millions of naira as ransom. They were also accused of extrajudicial killings and maliciously destroying people’s houses while tagging their victims as ‘unknown gunmen’, among other allegations.

“My husband took that step because these two men destroyed his house and threatened to kill him,” she alleged.

Mrs Onyemee said the petition had been pending for nearly two months, adding that efforts were made to get the Agunechemba authorities to bring the two operatives in for questioning.

She claimed that her family paid N250,000 to Agunechemba headquarters, popularly known as the Lion Building in Awka, following a request allegedly made to facilitate the operatives’ appearance for questioning and possible prosecution.

However, she said that instead of the two operatives being questioned over the allegations against them, her husband was arrested through an acquaintance and taken to Awkuzu.

“Instead of facing the allegations against them, what AK and Udo did was to lure my husband through his friend, Henry, also known as Ezeanayo-ayo, and arrest him.

“They took him to Awkuzu SARS and claimed that my husband murdered a man in Uli in 2022, about four years ago,” she alleged.

Mrs Onyemee also claimed that a woman was brought forward to accuse her husband of being responsible for the death of her husband four years ago.

She questioned: “If my husband killed anybody since 2022, which police station was the matter reported? None. Was the matter reported in any police crime diary? No. Was my husband declared wanted after the incident since 2022? No.

“What then is the motive behind this allegation? To silence my husband and make sure they come out of the hook,” she alleged.

She said her husband had previously worked as a toll collector for the government agency responsible for agricultural produce before joining the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade as an ad-hoc staff member in Onitsha.

The woman further alleged that some community leaders and government officials in Uli were aware of the activities she attributed to the two operatives but had remained silent, allegedly out of fear.

She appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; Governor Chukwuma Soludo; the police and human rights organisations in Nigeria and abroad to intervene in the matter.

“I am appealing for urgent intervention to save my husband from injustice,” she said.

When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge and Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, CSP Orebe Chidubem Mathew, confirmed that Chimobi Onyemee was in the squad’s custody but declined to provide further details.

The state Police Public Relations Officer had yet to respond to requests for confirmation and reaction to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to contact Udo and AK directly were unsuccessful as their phone numbers were not available.

However, the Public Relations Officer of Agunechemba, Nweke Nweke, confirmed that a complaint had been lodged against the two operatives.

Nweke explained that the interrogation, which was initially expected to take place earlier, was postponed because the complainant did not appear when the agency was notified.

He said the complainant and the two operatives were expected to appear before the agency today (Tuesday), for questioning.

Nweke also said he was not aware of any other arrest linked to the matter, adding that Agunechemba could only properly address the petition when both the complainant and the accused operatives were present.

He denied Mrs Onyemee’s allegation that N250,000 was collected by the agency to facilitate the investigation or questioning of its officers.

“If she is saying that somebody collected N250,000, she should identify the person who collected the money,” Nweke said.
