The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, Simeon U. Akpanudom, has charged officers and men of the formation to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.

Akpanudom gave the directive during the FCID Annex Lecture Parade held at the formation’s headquarters in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, where he commended officers for their dedication, loyalty, and commitment to the advancement of the Nigeria Police Force.

He also praised sectional heads for providing effective leadership, supervision, and operational excellence.

Reaffirming the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to build a professional, accountable, and people-oriented police force, the AIG directed supervisory officers to prioritise the welfare of personnel, especially officers who are ill or off duty.

He stressed that improved welfare is essential for enhanced productivity and efficient service delivery.
He warned officers against corruption, extortion, bribery, and other unethical practices capable of damaging the image of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that misconduct in any form would not be tolerated.

He urged detectives to carry out investigations with fairness, diligence, professionalism, and strict adherence to the law.

The AIG also cautioned officers against the indiscriminate transfer of case files, unlawful arrests, unnecessary detention of suspects, and the criminalisation of purely civil disputes.

He reminded investigators that their responsibility is to establish facts rather than act as judges and urged them to ensure that all investigations are intelligence-driven, evidence-based, and conducted in line with existing laws, while respecting the fundamental rights of all individuals.

On service delivery, Akpanudom urged personnel to remain courteous and professional in their interactions with members of the public, comply with the approved Nigeria Police Force dress code, and project a positive image of the Force through exemplary conduct.

He further underscored the importance of teamwork in criminal investigations, directing sectional heads to closely supervise cases under their command while ensuring effective coordination and communication through designated team leaders.

The AIG also encouraged officers to embrace continuous learning, capacity building, and professional development, particularly in emerging fields such as cybercrime investigation and digital policing.

He urged all personnel to remain disciplined, committed to excellence, and to add value wherever they are deployed, noting that professionalism, integrity, accountability, and dedication to duty are critical to the effective administration of justice and the continued growth of the Police.
