Barely 48 hours after a teenager died in a separate gun incident in Bauchi State, another resident has been shot dead with a locally fabricated firearm, raising fresh concerns over the dangers posed by unregulated weapons in the state.

The latest victim, Hassan Mohammed of Rinjin Gura village in Zalau Ward, Toro Local Council, was allegedly shot in the neck by 25-year-old Jabir Yusuf, the police said yesterday.

Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said Yusuf had been arrested in connection with the incident and that the firearm used in the attack had been recovered.

According to him, preliminary investigation showed that the suspect allegedly fired a locally fabricated Dane gun at Mohammed, hitting him in the neck and inflicting fatal injuries.

“The victim was evacuated to Toro General Hospital for urgent medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor,” Habib said.

He added that the victim’s remains were subsequently profiled and released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and possible prosecution,” he said.

The incident came less than two days after the death of 13-year-old Mubarak Mohammed in Udubo village, Gamawa Local Council, in another tragedy involving a locally fabricated Dane gun.

Police said the teenager died on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., after he allegedly pulled the trigger of a loaded Dane gun kept by a 35-year-old hunter, Suleiman Hamza.

According to the police, the teenager had entered Hamza’s room shortly after the hunter returned from a hunting trip when the incident occurred.
