The Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Council, Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, has launched the second phase of the Apapa Constituency Residents’ Palliative Economic Generic Data initiative to ease economic pressure at the grassroots.
At a ceremony held at the council headquarters, 300 residents received cash grants of N100,000 each, bringing the total disbursement for the phase to N30 million.
The development follows the first phase of the programme, bringing the number of beneficiaries so far to 600.
Senbanjo said the initiative forms part of a sustained intervention rather than a one-off exercise.
“We are giving 4,000 people N100,000 each. This will continue for the next 11 to 12 months. We have already done phase one and this is phase two, which means we have now reached 600 people,” she said.
She stated that the scheme is open to all Nigerians residing or working in Apapa, with a registration and identification process designed to ensure that support reaches genuine residents. The programme targets 4,000 beneficiaries over the next year.
Senbanjo added that beyond general financial relief, the grants have provided critical support for residents facing medical emergencies, noting that some beneficiaries have used the funds to address urgent health needs.
She said the council’s intervention aligns with the broader economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“As long as Mr President is giving us the subsidy, we will ensure that the money and the benefits reach people at the grassroots,” she said.
