Asclepius Consulting marks World Hypertension Day
Asclepius Consulting marks World Hypertension Day today the 17th of May.
The day is used to raise awareness of the importance of measuring periodic blood pressure and knowing its normal levels. Also, organizations share knowledge of early prevention methods of high blood pressure and also highlight prevalence of high blood pressure in the Nigerian Society.
The theme for 2023 is ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer’.
Hypertension is a leading cause of premature death worldwide.
It is also called the silent killer because symptoms may not appear clearly.
Most people with hypertension don’t feel any symptoms. Very high blood pressures can cause headaches, blurred vision, chest pain and other symptoms.
Checking your blood pressure is the best way to know if you have high blood pressure. If hypertension isn’t treated, it can cause other health conditions like kidney disease, heart disease and stroke.
The Head of Health & Wellbeing, Asclepius Consulting, Dr. Tosin Longe advises that Lifestyle changes can help lower high blood pressure. These include; eating a healthy low-salt diet, losing weight if you are obese, being physically active & quitting tobacco.
