Despite the intermittent rain, families and friends who came in their numbers to the Banana Island Cultural Festival were treated to the best of culture and cuisine.
Organised by the Banana Island Property Owners and Residents’ Association, it was themed ‘Tour the world’, and it celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day. It was also a cultural cantata, as it celebrated the diverse cultures and traditions of residents of the estate: their beauties, traditions, dance, games culinary delicacies that tell stories of heritages.
It was also an opportunity to strengthen cultural ties and foster good neighbourliness.
The South Korean stand was a delight to a great number of festival enthusiasts swarming around and getting in queue to enjoy the culinary experience of kimche, spaghetti and other dishes. Xmob, the group that took first position at this year’s K-Pop Festival, performed some Korean music.
The day-long event was packed with different activities that went on into the night, including dance from troupes representing, South Korea, South Africa, Ghana, Philippine and Indonesia.
Reflecting on the whole cultural fiesta, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, Nigeria, Kim Changki, reiterated how the festival aligns with the Korean Cultural Centre’s goals.
Changki said, “We want to promote Korean culture in Nigeria. We hope to share the awesome Korean experience via our food, dance and drama and more.”
