A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered a DNA test on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the order while ruling on an application filed by the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking confirmation of Liam’s paternity.
The court directed that the test be conducted at a recognised and accredited medical facility, either in Nigeria or abroad.
In the suit, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Mohbad’s widow, was listed as the respondent.
The application was brought pursuant to Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012, and Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.
Joseph Aloba also asked the court to compel the Chief Medical Officer or Chief Pathologist at the Military Hospital, Yaba—where Mohbad’s remains are currently kept—to extract tissue, hair, or any other suitable sample from the deceased for use in the DNA test.
The test, according to the order, must be carried out at an accredited government or private medical facility in Lagos, or at any other mutually agreed hospital outside the state.
