A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta has ordered the case file of a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) member, Shamusideen Oladiti, to be forwarded to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, following widespread public outrage over a viral video of his alleged assault.
Oladiti, a 55-year-old, was docked before Magistrate A. O. Akinde on a three-count charge bordering on unlawful homicide, conspiracy, and grievous assault.
The Nigerian Police filed the charges against him following an alleged violent attack on August 27, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island, where he was said to have beaten Imam Ramon with repeated fist blows.
Ramon later died from the injuries at Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina.
The defendant was also alleged to have conspired with others still at large to commit felony on September 17, 2025, and of separately assaulting another victim, Omale Samuel, inflicting grievous harm.
Although the charges were read in court, Oladiti’s plea was not taken.
The prosecutor, Superintendent of Police Anthony Iyeye of the Legal/Prosecution Section, Panti, Yaba, with ASP Johnson Olumuyiwa of D27 SCID, Yaba, listed as the Investigating Police Officer (IPO).
The Magistrate Akinde therefore directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) within 30 days for advice on prosecution and subsequently adjourned the case to October 28, 2025.
