…Recover 21 Bags of Indian Hemp

 

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its intelligence-led operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs in the state, arresting a 56-year-old suspected drug distributor and recovering 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development on Sunday in Asaba Delta State.

 

Edafe hinted that the latest breakthrough was recorded on Saturday, August 8, 2026, when operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible and actionable intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout at Owa-Abbi in Ukwani Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

During the operation, the police arrested a suspect identified as Lucky Oyiboka, 56, while a thorough search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, he said.

 

The Command’s spokesperson said the operation formed part of its sustained crime-fighting campaign in line with the strategic policing initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly efforts aimed at disrupting criminal enterprises and stemming the circulation of illicit drugs.

 

According to him, preliminary investigations have indicated that Oyiboka is allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.

 

He, however, said investigations were still ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities, trace the source and intended distribution channels of the suspected drugs, and identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged illicit drug network.

 

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, Bright Edafe added.

 

The police also appealed to residents of Delta State to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements, activities and locations that could aid criminal operations.

 

The Delta State Police Command said it would continue to sustain its operations across the state in pursuit of criminals and persons involved in the distribution of illicit substances.
