The Oyo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Ayodele Sonubi, has advised newly promoted officers of the state command to avoid actions that would make the public tag them evil.

Sonubi gave the advice while decorating the officers at the command’s headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four officers were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

The command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, and 24 others were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), while 20 officers moved to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).

Sonubi reminded the officers they were being watched by the public to be either commended or criticised based on their behaviour and performance.

“Let the people know you as better-behaved officers and not as evil-doing officers,” Sonubi said.

He urged the officers to be tough, avoid being wicked and corrupt, readily available to guide and provide ideal leadership to their subordinates as they grow on the job.

“Be firm in decision-making and be ready to stand by your men when you send them on an assignment; even if it backfired and you know they followed your directive on the assignment,” he said.

Sonubi urged the superior officers not to hesitate to seek counsel from their competent junior officers, adding that the superior will always be commended for successful operations.

The CP, who appreciated God on behalf of the newly promoted officers, urged them to count themselves lucky to witness the promotion and decoration.

One of the newly promoted officers, ACP Lawrence Ehindero, thanked the police management team for the promotion and promised to work within the ethics of the profession.

The command’s spokesperson thanked the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission and the state CP for finding him worthy of the promotion.

Osifeso said 202 police personnel were promoted in the state command.
