Secretary to Kibiya Local Council of Kano State, Hamza Musa Durba, has regained freedom after a string operation of the Department of State Services (DSS) that busted the criminal hideout.
The operatives of the DSS successfully rescued the abducted Council Secretary after receiving intelligent information.
Durba was kidnapped at his residence in Kibiya by armed assailants, who later demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release.
Security sources revealed that the kidnappers allegedly traced the victim through insider information provided by a resident of the area.
According to intelligence reports, the abductors were believed to have come from Rijana, a location previously linked to criminal activities along the Kaduna–Abuja axis.
Acting on credible intelligence, DSS operatives identified the hideout of the kidnappers in Rano and launched a coordinated raid on Tuesday after a gun battle with the criminals.
The DSS team successfully rescued the victim alive, while two of the kidnappers were apprehended after a gun duel. However, two others managed to escape with gunshot wounds and are currently at large.
“The rescued Council Secretary is currently receiving medical attention and will soon be reunited with his family,” security operatives confirmed.
Meanwhile, Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity across the state, vowing to intensify efforts to eliminate kidnapping and banditry activities.
