EFCC arraigns man for N5m fraud in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, arraigned Muhammad Yaqub Ramat before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri, on a two counts related to criminal misappropriation of N5 million.

One of the counts reads: “That you, Muhammad Yaqub Ramat, with National Identification Number (NIN) 22537195891 in 2024, while acting as the manager of Salam and Sabur Filling Station in Maiduguri, Borno State, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the sum of N5 million belonging to Tahir Umar. This amount was intended for investment in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Diesel and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), which you converted to your personal use without his consent, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 296 of the Penal Code Law and other and punishable under Section 297 of the same law.”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. The prosecuting counsel, Shamsudden Saka, requested a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded in a Correctional Centre.

Justice Kumaliya adjourned the case till August 5, for hearing and remanded the defendant in the Maiduguri Correctional Centre.
