The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has reaffirmed its commitment to professional, responsive and people-centred policing, stressing the importance of stronger partnerships between security agencies and the communities they serve.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the FCID Annex, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, made the commitment as the command joined the Inspector-General of Police and other institutions across the country to commemorate the 2026 Customer Service Week, themed, “Going the Extra Mile.”
Akpanudom said the theme was consistent with the policing priorities of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly the drive to promote a professional, accountable and service-oriented Nigeria Police Force.
He said going the extra mile in policing should mean more than enforcing the law, adding that officers must also serve members of the public with integrity, empathy, fairness and professionalism while respecting their rights and dignity.
As part of the celebration, the FCID Annex distributed Customer Service Week awareness books and branded stickers to members of the public to promote positive police-public relations and encourage greater understanding between the police and the communities they serve.
Akpanudom urged officers and personnel of the command to listen attentively to members of the public, communicate respectfully and maintain professionalism in their dealings with citizens.
He described the public as partners in policing, noting that credible information, cooperation and constructive feedback were essential to effective crime prevention, investigation and public safety.
According to him, the values highlighted during Customer Service Week should not end with the celebration but should become part of the everyday culture of policing.
He said the FCID Annex would continue to strengthen public trust through transparency, accountability, responsiveness and quality service delivery.
The initiative attracted positive reactions from members of the public, some of whom described the distribution of the awareness materials as an encouraging effort to promote direct engagement between the police and citizens.
The command’s emphasis on police-community partnership also featured in a separate congratulatory message by Akpanudom to the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayo Ogunsan, who marked his 50th birthday on October 7, 2026.
Akpanudom commended Ogunsan’s contributions to security and public safety in Lagos, particularly his role in strengthening collaboration among the state government, security agencies, the private sector and other stakeholders through the LSSTF.
He said such partnerships remained important to efforts to improve security and create a safer environment for residents.
The AIG congratulated Ogunsan on the milestone and wished him long life, good health, wisdom and strength to continue contributing to the development and security of Lagos State and Nigeria.
He also wished the LSSTF chief executive a fulfilling and memorable 50th birthday celebration.
The FCID Annex said its continued engagement with citizens and stakeholders reflected its commitment to building confidence, strengthening trust and promoting a more responsive policing system.
