Fire razes five shops in Anambra, destroys property worth millions

Anambra State

AN early morning fire outbreak yesterday gutted a storey building housing electronics and electrical appliances in Nnewi North Local Council of Anambra State, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The Fire Chief of the Anambra Fire Service, Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Onitsha.

Chiketa said the inferno affected five shops located on the upper floor of the one-storey building, where electronics and related parts were sold.

According to him, the fire started at about 9:00 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters and equipment to the scene to contain the blaze.

“The affected building is a one-storey structure. The inferno affected about five shops upstairs, which contained electronics and parts.

“The good news is that the fire has been brought under control. There was no loss of life, and many shops upstairs and downstairs were saved,” he said.

He noted that the cause of the fire had not yet been determined and urged residents to be vigilant and fire-conscious.
The fire chief also advised traders and shop owners to install fire extinguishers as a precaution before emergency responders arrived.
