A senior worker at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oluwaseun Adeniji, has died after reportedly jumping into a well in the Obantoko area on Sunday evening.
According to a source close to the situation, the late FMC worker had been battling mental health challenges and had previously undergone treatment for the ailment.
The hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Dr. Segun Orisajo, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, with the exact reasons for the deceased’s action unclear.
Adeniji is said to have taken the tragic step shortly after dinner, with describing the loss as both shocking and painful for the hospital community.
“The sudden death of Mr Adeniji Oluwaseun under a questionable circumstance was a painful loss to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta,” Orisajo said.
“He was a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking staff member. There were no obvious signs that we were going to lose him so soon, as he was at work almost the entire last week.”
The hospital’s Medical Director, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu, extended his condolences to the family of the late Adeniji and his colleagues, praying for comfort during this difficult time.
