The Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Touch of Love and Lifting Hands Foundation, Dr Atinuke Owolabi, has appealed to political leaders across board to improve investment in social welfare, especially for the senior citizens.
She made the appeal at the grand finale of its 7th Yearly Humanitarian Week 2024, organised by the Touch of Love and Lifting Hands Foundation in Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.
The forum attracted government representatives, friends, and members of Ifako-Ijaiye local council.
Dr Owolabi used the occasion to emphasise the critical role of government in supporting the aged and widows in the society.
Specifically, she urged leaders to invest in social welfare programmes that address the senior citizens’ unique needs, provide accessible healthcare and financial security for the elderly.
She also called for collaboration with those involved in philanthropic initiatives to reach underserved communities and create lasting impact.
“We have been on a remarkable journey of spreading love, charity, and care to the aged and vulnerable widows in our society.
“Over 500 individuals have received gift items, including rice, Garri, condiments, and other essentials, to make their Christmas season truly enjoyable. In addition, we will provide a warm meal to every attendee, ensuring no one leaves without feeling the love and care we aim to share,” Owolabi said.
Owolabi, who doubles as the Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Lagos, said the initiative was not only about providing material support but also about creating a space where the elderly and widows feel valued, supported, and empowered.
“It is a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, bringing hope and light to those who need it most.
“Let us continue to work together to build a society where no one is left behind, especially during seasons of celebration like this,” she added.
