Four die in Ijebu-Ode-Ore expressway auto crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has confirmed that four persons died on Monday in an accident that involved two vehicles along the Ijebu-Imushin axis of Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway.

The Command’s Spokesperson, Odunsi Afolabi, in a statement, yesterday, stated that the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ 482 XC and a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number RSH 969 XC.

According to him, at about 11:16 p.m., a Toyota Hiace bus collided with a MAN Diesel truck, belonging to Julius Berger.

“Regrettably, all four individuals involved in the crash, comprising two male adults and two females sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.

”The remains of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode,” he said.

He said that preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by Speed Violation (SPV).

He also said that the truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped, and the speeding Toyota bus subsequently rammed into it, adding that following the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, leaving the truck behind.

Afolabi said that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Imushin Division, has, however, taken custody of the vehicles and the case for further investigation.

He quoted the state Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, as urging all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially during night travel.

Fasakin also urged towing vehicle owners to ensure that their towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
