FRSC partners NDLEA to curb drunk driving in Katsina
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State has called for collaboration with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to address the issue of drunk driving in the state.
The FRSC also requested the agency’s assistance in extending its campaign against drunk driving to motor parks across Katsina.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, made the request during a visit to the NDLEA State Commander, Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, in Katsina yesterday.
Ma’aji stressed the need to sensitise motorists on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.
He proposed that the awareness campaign should also target schools, trailer parks, and commercial motorcycle and tricycle parks.
Ma’aji explained that the aim of this partnership was to educate drivers and motorcycle riders on the risks associated with drug and alcohol abuse.
The Sector Commander noted that raising awareness on this issue could significantly reduce road fatalities, as many accidents are caused by drivers and motorcycle riders under the influence of drugs.
In response, NDLEA State Commander Aminu-Abubakar assured the FRSC of the agency’s full support.
He expressed concern over the growing prevalence of drug abuse among youths and emphasised the need for collective efforts from all stakeholders to tackle the problem.
