A fuel-laden tanker on Tuesday reportedly exploded in flames at the Jigawa-Kano border.

The incident occurred in Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village along Maiduri Road, according to the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Jigawa State Command.

FFS’s spokesperson, Aliyu M. A., confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday, saying the fire service received an urgent call from the Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad, at 10:43 a.m. local time.

“On November 12, 2024, at approximately 10:43 hours, the Federal Fire Service received a distress call from Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad, regarding a tanker accident at Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village along Maiduri Road,” Aliyu said.

Aliyu stated that the FFS responded promptly, arriving at the scene at 10:50 hours.

He added that the fire was contained and brought under control.

This recent explosion is closely related to a similar tragedy that occurred just one month earlier, when a petrol tanker exploded in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, killing over 170 people on October 15, 2024.
