Gombe govt to establish 13 local council development areas

The Gombe State Government has announced plans to create 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across its 11 local government areas to strengthen grassroots governance.

Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, said in a statement on Wednesday that Governor Inuwa Yahaya has submitted a bill to the State House of Assembly for the establishment of the new LCDAs.

He described the move as “an historic step towards bringing governance closer to the people, improving service delivery, and promoting inclusive, participatory democracy.”

According to Misilli, the LCDAs will serve as administrative subdivisions of existing LGAs, to focus on security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

They will also work with traditional rulers and community leaders to maintain peace and foster development in line with the Gombe State Chieftaincy Law (as amended).

The bill also provides for Interim Management Committees to oversee each LCDA pending local government elections.

The proposed LCDAs and their headquarters are: Akko North (Amada), Akko West (Pindiga), Balanga South (Bambam), Billiri West (Tal), Dukku North (Malala), Funakaye South (Tongo), Gombe South (Bolari), Kaltungo East (Wange), Kwami West (Bojude), Nafada South (Birin Fulani), Pero-Chonge (Filiya), Yamaltu East (Hinna), and Yamaltu West (Zambuk).
