Shortly after Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya appointed new members and chairmen to some government boards and commissions on Wednesday, a traditional leader in the state who is one of the appointees, Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Santuraki, has turned down his appointment.
Bashir, who holds the traditional title of “Santurakin Dukku” of the emirate, has declined his appointment as a part-time member of the Gombe State Teachers Service Commission.
In a letter to the governor dated July 9, 2025, the traditional title holder declined to accept the appointment, citing personal and pressing commitments.
“After careful reflection and consultation, I respectfully wish to decline the appointment due to personal and pressing commitments which may impair my capacity to discharge my responsibilities of the office effectively,” he said.
Santuraki told the governor that his decision was not a reflection of a lack of loyalty or support for the administration. This was as he pledged to contribute to the state’s growth “in other meaningful ways.”
“This decision is in no way a reflection of a lack of loyalty or support for your progressive administration. On the contrary, I remain fully committed to the development of Gombe State and shall continue to contribute my quota in other meaningful ways as may be deemed appropriate,” he stated in the letter.
Our correspondent reports that the governor has appointed members and chairmen of various commissions, including the Teachers’ Service Commission, the Civil Service Commission, the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), the Gombe Media Corporation, and the College of Nursing and Midwifery Board.
