• Kicks Off 25th Anniversary Festivities With Nostalgic Courtesy Visit
Members of Government College Ketu’s Class of 2001 recently embarked on a heart-warming return to their alma mater, marking the official commencement of activities celebrating their 25th graduation anniversary.
The distinguished delegation, representing classmates across Nigeria and the diaspora, included Damilare Shittu (Alumni President), Dr. Rhoda Adeniji (25th Anniversary Committee Chairperson), Pioneer Alumni President Nkechinyere Nwaiwu, alongside Dapo Iwajomo, Omoniyi Kaka, Deji Ogunsanwo, and Bisola Koledoye.
The visit began with a memorable encounter at the junior school, where current Principal Mr. M.T. Olawoyin, who served as Head of Mathematics during their student days, warmly received the team. “Seeing these young minds I once taught return as accomplished professionals fills my heart with immense pride,” Olawoyin said. “They represent the very best of what GCK stands for – excellence, character, and service to humanity.”
The alumni also paid courtesy visits to Senior School Principal, Mr. Sulaiman Ajayi, engaging in meaningful discussions about the school’s continued growth and development initiatives.
A particular highlight was their visit to the Otunba Obajimi Recreation Centre, a project the Class of 2001 facilitated a part of during their graduation in 2001. The facility continues serving current students, embodying the set’s enduring commitment to their alma mater.
“Walking through these familiar corridors brought back floods of memories,” said Alumni President Shittu. “24 years ago, we were young dreamers within these walls. Today, we return as testament to the solid foundation GCK provided us, ready to give back even more meaningfully.”
Dr. Rhoda Adeniji, who chairs the anniversary planning committee, emphasised the significance of this milestone. “This courtesy visit represents just the beginning of an extraordinary year-long celebration. We’re planning something truly spectacular that will bring together classmates from every corner of the globe.”
The delegation praised the remarkable transformation evident across campus, particularly acknowledging the extensive renovation project undertaken by the general alumni association during the school’s golden jubilee celebration last year; an initiative the Class of 2001 proudly supported.
This courtesy visit marks the launch of a comprehensive calendar of anniversary activities, culminating in a grand celebration expected to attract participants from across the globe. The festivities promise to be the most significant reunion in the set’s history, strengthening bonds forged during their formative years at one of Lagos State’s most prestigious institutions.
