
A hair stylist, Martina Auta, 30, who allegedly stole her customer’s N80,000 and two ATM cards, on Wednesday, was arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, who reside at Narayi in Kaduna, is facing a two-count charge of breach of trust and stealing, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, said that the defendant committed the offences on March 20 at Barnawa area, Kaduna at 3:00p.m.
Leo told the court that the defendant stole the N80, 000 and two ATM cards from the handbag of Mrs Rose Adams, who came to make her hair.

“The defendant, who sent her apprentice on errand, stole the money and ATM cards from the customer’s purse in the salon when the latter stepped out to make a call,” the prosecutor said.
According to him, another customer who walked in precisely at the time caught the defendant removing the stolen items from the bag.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 244 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
“Section 271 attracts a prison term that may extend to five years or with a fine equivalent to twice the value of the stolen item or both if found guilty.”

The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.
Emmanuel said that the surety should be a blood relative of the defendant and must possess a landed property in the state.
He said that in addition, the surety should produce evidence of payment of tax for the two previous years to the Kaduna State Government.
Emmanuel subsequently adjourned the case until May 6 for hearing.
