The Ijaw Ethnic Nationality has again lost one of its industrious sons, C.J.O. Oyakemeagbegha, father to the Ijaw National Congress (INC) spokesman, Ezonebi.
He died aged 91 years on Sunday, August 10, 2021, barely seven months after an Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, died at 97 years.
Announcing the death, the family in a statement signed by Felix Ebikeme Oyakemeagbegha said it is with profound sadness that they announce the passing of the distinguished leader, mentor, and former General Manager of the Pan African Bank Limited of the defunct Rivers State.
The statement said he died in the early hours of August 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, integrity, and compassion, adding that he was also the first chairman of the Toru-ebe state creation committee.
“Chief Oyakemeagbegha was a beacon of hope and inspiration to countless individuals, and his contributions to the banking industry and his community will forever be remembered. His remarkable leadership, business acumen, and mentorship touched the lives of many, shaping their personal and professional journeys,” the statement noted.
“We take comfort in the memories of his remarkable life, his achievements, and the impact he had on those around him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations.”
The family invites friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to join in celebrating his life and mourning his passing, adding that further details on funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
