As part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has granted pardon to six inmates serving various prison terms across correctional facilities in the state.
The governor said the decision, taken in line with his constitutional powers and on the recommendations of the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, was aimed at showing compassion and recognising the inmates’ demonstrated good conduct.
“In the exercise of my prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and in line with the advice of the Advisory Council, I have granted pardon to six persons who have served various jail terms and shown significant improvement in behaviour,” Fintiri said.
He ordered their immediate release and directed relevant authorities to ensure prompt implementation of the pardon.
The inmates granted clemency are Wamari Godwin, Abraham Marksunil, David Paul, Ibrahim Adamu, Usman Inuwa, and Sani Yahaya.
The governor’s gesture is seen as a humanitarian act, reflecting the spirit of national unity and renewal during the Independence celebrations.
