The Kano State Police Command on Monday rescued a 19-year-old man, Ibrahim Abubakar, who threatened to jump from a billboard at Ado Bayero Bridge unless he met TikTok influencer Abdul BK.
Abubakar, said to be from Adamawa State, had climbed the high-rise structure and refused to descend, drawing public attention to the busy area.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, officers responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene alongside officials of the Fire Service.
The police said dialogue and negotiation were employed to de-escalate the situation. Abdul BK was eventually brought to the location, after which Abubakar agreed to come down. He was rescued unharmed but was reportedly weak after spending several hours without food. He was taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for medical care.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended the response team for handling the situation professionally. He also directed that the incident be investigated.
The police warned members of the public against similar actions, noting that attempted suicide remains a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
They urged individuals facing mental or emotional distress to seek professional support.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring public safety in Kano State.
