The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has received nearly-expired goods worth N28,615,200.00 from SUFAYE Investment, a private enterprise in the state.
The items include short-dated and soon-to-expire consumables that could pose risks to unsuspecting consumers in Kano State.
The gesture is part of efforts to support the fight against adulterated and unsafe products in the state.
Receiving the items, the Executive Secretary of the KCPC, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, applauded the management of SUFAYE Investment for prioritising the safety and well-being of consumers over economic interests.
Dr. Muhammad said the company’s leadership had demonstrated patriotism and sincerity of purpose, while reflecting the core mandate of the KCPC, which is centred on the protection of consumers and public health.
The Executive Secretary also praised SUFAYE Investment for upholding the fear of God by voluntarily surrendering the products to the appropriate authority, rather than allowing them to remain in circulation.
He used the occasion to admonish other companies and business owners across the state to emulate SUFAYE Investment by withdrawing adulterated, damaged and expired products from the market to avoid endangering the lives of innocent residents.
He further disclosed that, within the last four months, the Council had received products worth millions of naira, which are currently awaiting the approval of the Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their lawful destruction.
The Executive Secretary expressed appreciation to the people of Kano State, as well as companies and business owners, for their cooperation and support towards the Council’s efforts to protect consumers and ensure the quality and safety of products available in the markets.
Earlier in his remarks, the Manager of SUFAYE Investment, Alhaji Jabir, said the initiative was part of the company’s efforts to inspect and assess its products and remove those that had expired or were approaching their expiry dates, in compliance with regulatory requirements and proper business practices.
Alhaji Jabir commended the Kano State Consumer Protection Council for its continuous monitoring and supervision of products in the market, noting that such efforts would greatly contribute to protecting public health.
He further assured that the company would continue to produce quality products, particularly its beverages, while contributing to the economic development of Kano State.
