Lagos boat regatta 2024 holds December 21
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has officially announced that the Lagos Boat Regatta 2024 will take place on December 21, 2024, at the picturesque Five Cowries Creek.
Initially slated for the Easter period, the event was rescheduled to ensure an enhanced and inclusive experience for attendees.
Speaking on the development, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to delivering a grand celebration of Lagos’ aquatic heritage.
She noted, “The postponement has given us the opportunity to enhance the programme and deliver a bigger, better, and more inclusive event.”
As a celebration of its aquatic life, the Lagos Boat Regatta promises to be a spectacular showcase of state’s vibrant aquatic culture, featuring a parade of over 200 hand-decorated boats celebrating the cultural diversity of Lagos.
There will also be engagement with local fishing communities, spotlighting their cultural significance and exploring economic opportunities.
The event will witness thrilling rowing races featuring participants from Lagos’ five IBILE divisions: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.
There will be displays by private boat owners with creatively designed vessels.
This year’s event aims to further establish Lagos as a leading tourism destination in Africa, while also promoting the State’s scenic beaches and thriving hospitality sector.
To ensure maximum participation, viewing centers have been set up at prime locations along Lagos’ coastline.
Spots can be reserved at the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) at Five Cowries Creek, Falomo, Ikoyi and the Eco Bank Headquarters, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island.
Other viewing centers are Wealth and Crown, 24 Ademola Street, Ikoyi and the Boat Yard, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1.
