The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has reaffirmed his commitment to providing exemplary leadership and innovative solutions to address the complexities of traffic management in Lagos State.
Speaking in commemoration of his first year in office, Bakare-Oki highlighted key achievements under his leadership, which have transformed traffic operations, enhanced road safety, and reinforced LASTMA’s role in the state’s socio-economic development.
In a statement, Adebayo Taofiq, director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, noted that Bakare-Oki introduced advanced traffic management techniques, integrating technology and data analytics to mitigate congestion on critical road corridors.
“His efforts have led to the deployment of intelligent traffic control systems, significantly reducing gridlock in major areas of the metropolis,” Taofiq said.
Recognising the importance of a skilled workforce, Bakare-Oki initiated extensive training programmes for LASTMA personnel to equip them with contemporary traffic management skills while fostering professionalism and efficiency.
With a focus on road safety, the LASTMA chief also championed public sensitisation campaigns to educate motorists and pedestrians. These efforts have reportedly reduced traffic violations and road accidents across Lagos State.
Taofiq further disclosed that Bakare-Oki’s administration embraced technological innovations, including mobile applications for real-time traffic updates and incident reporting and real-time monitoring systems that enhance rapid response and proactive management.
Under Bakare-Oki’s leadership, LASTMA has strengthened collaborations with transport unions, private sector stakeholders, and community leaders, fostering a collective approach to tackling traffic challenges and improving the urban commuting experience.
