LASTMA probes alleged official’s  N100,000 extortion on Coastal Road

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a full-scale investigation into the allegation of N100,000 extortion against one of its official on the Coastal Road.

This follows a social media publication circulating on Facebook by ‘Objectv Media’, where an individual identified as Tosin alleged that LASTMA officers were arresting commercial buses along the Coastal Road, demanding payment of N100,000 before  releasing the vehicles.

In response, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that the Authority  takes such allegations very seriously.

He emphasised that LASTMA is a disciplined, professional and ethically guided government institution that does not condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel.

“The management has initiated a thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation into the allegation. The inquiry has already begun and the culprits will face full consequences of the law,” he said.

Taofiq, however, reiterated LASTMA’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and the highest standards of public service.

He urged the public to continue to report any perceived misconduct through verified channels, as LASTMA remains dedicated to a traffic management system based on fairness, orderliness and respect for the rights of all road users.
