Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the abduction of seven teachers during Friday’s attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by suspected bandits.
Makinde disclosed this during a press briefing held at his private residence in Kolapo Ishola Estate, Ibadan, where he gave an update on the security situation following the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Ẹ̀sínẹ̀lẹ̀, L.A. Basic School, Ahoro-Ẹ̀sínẹ̀lẹ̀, and First Baptist Church Nursery and Primary School, Yáwọ́ta.
The governor said one of the abducted teachers was reportedly killed while in captivity, according to a viral video currently circulating on social media.
He added that the exact number of abducted pupils could not yet be ascertained, noting that authorities would only confirm the figure when schools resume on Monday.
Makinde also disclosed that two operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, sustained injuries during the attack and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The governor further revealed that six members of the affected community suspected to have links with the attack had been arrested and were undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations.
While condoling with families of victims affected by the incident, Makinde assured residents that the state government would provide daily updates until the situation was fully brought under control.
Security chiefs and advisers to the governor were present at the briefing.
