Another tragedy has happened in Oyo State as a man allegedly killed his elder brother over a dream dispute.
The incident occurred at Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri, Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State.
Lateef Suleiman, 43, reportedly attacked his 52-year-old brother, Mustapha Amidu, after claiming that the deceased had shot him in a dream the previous night.
Acting on the unusual accusation, Suleiman allegedly approached Amidu while he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, and struck him on the head, leaving him critically injured before fleeing the scene.
The victim was immediately rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
The police confirmed that Suleiman has been arrested and has confessed to the crime, stating that the dream prompted his violent action.
He is currently cooperating with investigators as the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and comprehensive probe.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said a team of operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Amodu Division, visited both the crime scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
He emphasised that the command is leaving no stone unturned to ensure justice is served.
Ayanlade said: “One Badmus Yunisa ‘m’ of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri, reported that Lateef Suleiman ‘m’, aged 43 years, attacked his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu ‘m’, aged 52 years, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night. Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately.
“The victim was promptly rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.
Upon receipt of the report, a team of Police Operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ago-Amodu Division, visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigative procedures. The suspect has since been arrested, has confessed to the crime, and is currently cooperating with investigators”.
Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, expressed shock at the nature of the incident, noting its unusual and tragic circumstances.
Haruna assured the public that the case would be handled in accordance with the law and urged residents to remain calm as the investigation continues.
