A 38-year-old man, identified as Gabriel Iliya Magaji, a resident of Masaka, Karu Local Government Area (LGA), has taken his own life in a suicide act following alleged insubordination and unfaithfulness by his wife.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State command, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Lafia on Wednesday.

The PPRO said that the suicide occurred on Monday around 7:20 a.m.

According to the PPRO, a report lodged by a staff member of Crystal School Masaka at the Masaka division informed the police that an unidentified man was found hanging in one of the classrooms at the school.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the DPO led his men to the scene, untied the corpse, and took it to the General Hospital Mararaba, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor. The corpse was then deposited in the morgue,” he said.

The PPRO further disclosed that the deceased did not leave a suicide note. As such, the Police have commenced an investigation into the matter to unravel the cause of his death.

Whether the man killed himself because his friends were allegedly sleeping with his wife, the PPRO said he cannot confirm the allegation until investigations are concluded.

According to other sources, the 38-year-old man took his life on Monday in Masaka, Nasarawa State, after discovering that his friends often slept with his wife in exchange for money.

“When he confronted his wife, she said she was doing that because he couldn’t afford to bring food to the table,” a source told the Guardian.

“According to the wife, the friends of her husband often had sex with her and gave her money, which she used to buy food items to feed her late husband and their three kids.”
