One Akeem Sumonu has been arrested by the Ogun State Police for allegedly deflowering and impregnating a 16-year-old teenager.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, in the Olodo community of Odeda local government area of the state by operatives stationed at the community’s security post.

The victim’s mother, who identified as Christiana, told the police that Akeem raped her daughter and threatened the teenager to keep it a secret back in October 2024.

Christiana also said the daughter kept it away from her until sudden changes in her behaviour began to show.

The state police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Omolola Odutola, said, “The victim hid the incident from her parents until the complainant noticed unusual signs on her body.

“She then confided in her mother, revealing that the suspect had forcibly raped her, causing her to lose her virginity, and had threatened her not to tell anyone.”

However medical reports revealed she was eight weeks pregnant, with the pregnancy set to be a result of the crime.

“The suspect has been arrested and detained. Further investigation will take place once the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,” Odutola added.

Meanwhile, after his arrest by police operatives in the community, the suspect reportedly confessed to violently assaulting the girl and threatening her into silence.
