A Lagos court has ordered the remand of a man, Obiesan Sultan, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, made the order after the suspect was arraigned by the Lagos State government on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

The prosecution alleged that Sultan committed the offences on October 9, 2023, at about 9:30 a.m. at Ojewale Street, Soluyi, Gbagada, in Lagos. He allegedly defiled the minor by inserting his penis and fingers into her vagina.

Sultan pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecuting counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, informed the court that the prosecution intended to call four witnesses and would need a Yoruba interpreter during the trial.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the case to March 6, 2025, for the commencement of trial and ordered the defendant remanded to the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre.
