Fear and uncertainty have gripped residents of Ebubu in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State following the killing of politician and grassroots mobiliser, Samuel Obe Ngobe, by unidentified gunmen at a hotel in the community.
The attackers, described by witnesses as two masked men, reportedly stormed the hotel and walked directly toward the victim before opening fire at close range in what appeared to be a calculated and targeted attack.
Residents said the incident threw the area into confusion as guests and workers at the hotel scampered for safety moments after gunshots rang out within the premises.
The assailants were said to have fled immediately after carrying out the attack, leaving the victim in a pool of blood while bystanders struggled to respond to the sudden violence.
Ngobe was reportedly known within local political circles and youth mobilisation structures in the area, making news of his killing spread quickly across the community.
The attack has heightened fears among residents who say violent incidents and targeted attacks have continued to create tension in parts of Rivers State in recent months.
Community members also expressed concern over the manner in which the gunmen reportedly carried out the operation without resistance before escaping from the scene.
Security operatives later arrived at the hotel to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Authorities are yet to officially disclose the motive behind the attack, but investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The incident has reignited conversations around insecurity, political violence, and the growing need for stronger security presence across vulnerable communities in the state.
