Mentally ill man kills one, injures three in Taraba

Tragedy occurred over the weekend in the Buzzah community in Zing Local Government Area of Taraba State, as a mentally unstable man allegedly attacked four people, killing one and leaving three others critically injured.

The assailant, identified by residents as Denis, is well known in Zing town for wandering the streets dressed in white native attire and pretending to be preaching.

The Guardian reports that the incident, which took the people of the community by surprise, occurred at about 11 p.m.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that one person lost his life in the assault, while three others were seriously injured. Among the injured were two members of the community vigilante group, who had previously tried to restrict the suspect’s movements due to concerns about his behaviour.
“He always frowned at those he attacked. He saw them as a threat because they often curtailed his access and movement,” one resident told our state correspondent.

Community members also disclosed that the suspect was frequently seen carrying light weapons, causing panic in the area long before the attack occurred.

At the time of filing this report, the injured victims are receiving medical attention at Zing General Hospital, while security operatives have begun investigations to uncover the full details of the incident.

Authorities who spoke with The Guardian assured residents that measures are being taken to maintain order and prevent further occurrences.
