At least 30 terrorists have been neutralised in precision airstrikes and subsequent ground operations conducted by the Air Component and ground troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the military confirmed on Monday.
The operation, which took place on August 4, 2025, was launched following credible intelligence that a large group of terrorists from Faskari and Kankara in Katsina State, along with elements from Zamfara, had assembled at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward to attend a wedding ceremony.
In a statement issued by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the airstrike was described as “another operational success,” aimed at disrupting the terrorists’ movements and networks.
The air raid recorded heavy casualties, with several terrorists confirmed dead and many others critically injured.
Some of the injured were reportedly evacuated by their comrades to nearby Yankuzo village for treatment.
Following the air operation, troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY carried out a follow-up mission in the early hours of August 5.
According to the statement, soldiers engaged in a firefight after running into an ambush en route to Yankuzo. Despite the ambush, the troops fought through and further neutralised enemy elements.
It also noted that four known terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were critically injured during the operations.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reiterated its resolve to eliminate terrorist threats in Zamfara and across Nigeria’s Northwest, assuring citizens of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
