The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant operational successes in Kogi and Rivers states, rescuing 13 kidnapped victims and arresting six suspected drug peddlers in separate operations.

In Kogi, the Navy, working with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, rescued the kidnapped victims along the Itobe–Anyigba Highway in Ofu Local Council on August 10, 2026.

The operation followed a reported kidnapping incident in the area. After their rescue, the victims were handed over to relevant security authorities for screening and necessary assistance.

The operation, however, came at a cost as the security team encountered resistance from the suspected kidnappers.

One vigilante personnel was killed, while a police officer sustained a gunshot injury and was evacuated for medical treatment.

Security operations have since been intensified in the area as efforts continue to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

In Rivers State, personnel of the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base Bonny, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Bonny Area Command, arrested six suspected drug peddlers during an intelligence-driven operation at Amahausa in Bonny Local Council.

Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, stated that the operation also resulted in the recovery of various illicit substances, including 250 tablets of Exol 5, 117 wraps of Cannabis sativa, 50 wraps of methamphetamine, 70 wraps of heroin, eight 100mg Tramadol capsules, three packs of Cannabis sativa and a methamphetamine pipe.

According to Folorunsho, the two operations demonstrated the growing impact of intelligence-led operations, rapid response and effective collaboration among security agencies.

He added that the successes underscored the Service’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action, protecting lives and supporting broader efforts to strengthen security across Nigeria’s communities and maritime environment.
