NDLEA nabs bandits’ supplier with drugs taped to body, intercepts cocaine in religious books

A 22-year-old supplier of illicit substances to bandits, Muhammad Mohammed, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) while on patrol along the Bichi-Kano road.

He was intercepted while heading to Katsina with 277 ampoules of pentazocine injection tied to his thigh and private part with Sellotape. He was apprehended on Sunday, April 13, while another suspect, Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz, 43, was arrested the same day at Research Rimin Kebe area of Nasarawa, Kano, with 68 blocks of skunk, a strain of cannabis, weighing 30 kilogrammes.

Also, the agency intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed in 20 sets of religious books bound for Saudi Arabia. The cocaine consignment, consisting of 20 parcels with a total weight of 500 grammes, was hidden within the pages of the books and was uncovered at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, when NDLEA officers from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) were searching export cargo headed to Saudi Arabia.

At another courier company the same day, NDLEA officers intercepted five parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 2.8 kilogrammes, concealed in a carton arriving from the United States of America.

In Bayelsa State, a total of 557.2 kilogrammes of skunk, 5.6 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, and 29.8 grammes of heroin were recovered from a house along Major General Isaiah Allison Street, Opolo, Yenagoa.

Four suspects were arrested when NDLEA operatives raided the premises on Wednesday, April 16. The suspects are: Sarimiye Suwa Kurtis, 46; Roland Prosper, 34; Sarimiye Tare Paul, 45; and Fidelis Ugbesla, 46.

Meanwhile, a delivery van was intercepted in the Surulere area of Lagos on Thursday, April 17, and 1,100 kilogrammes of skunk were recovered. The driver, Ismail Abdullahi, was arrested.

In Kaduna, on Friday, April 18, NDLEA operatives raided the hideout of a suspect, Ike Ani, 30, in Zaria, recovering no fewer than 31,950 pills of Tramadol 225mg and diazepam.

In Kebbi State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bagudo road on Friday, April 18, intercepted a vehicle loaded with bags of charcoal coming from Malabil, Benin Republic. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 97 kilogrammes of skunk concealed within the sacks of charcoal. Three suspects: Abubakar Ibrahim, 50; Mustapha Aliyu, 32; and Bashar Lawali, 28 were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In Anambra State, a 48-year-old man, Okafor Marcel, was apprehended with 11.5 kilogrammes of skunk at Abatete. In Osun State, NDLEA operatives in Osogbo on Tuesday, April 15, arrested Ajala Mercy, 27, with 43 litres of skushi, a mixture of blackcurrant, cannabis, and opioids, recovered from her room at Dada Estate, Halleluyah area of the state capital.

Two cannabis farms located in Egbeta forest, Ovia North-East Local Council, Edo State, were also raided by NDLEA operatives, who destroyed 3,717.8625 kilogrammes of the psychoactive plant on 1.487145 hectares of land and recovered an additional 136.5 kilogrammes of processed cannabis.

At the Tincan seaport in Lagos, a suspect, Basorun Usman Kayode, 40, who had been on the run for two years, was arrested by NDLEA officers in connection with the seizure of 107 kilogrammes of Loud imported from Canada in 2023.

Another suspect, Dauda Yakubu, who distributes illicit drugs within the seaport community, was also arrested by a team of operatives on Monday, April 14.
