NGO, firm launch food drive to combat hunger in Lagos

United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN), in partnership with Zaron Cosmetics, has launched the Food Drive initiative to tackle food insecurity in vulnerable communities across Lagos State.

The initiative aims to provide essential food to women-led households, particularly widows and the elderly.

The Food Drive aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) as part of a broader mission to combat hunger and promote sustainable development.

It distributed staple food items, hygiene packs, and nutritional supplements to 100 households in the underserved Isale Gangan community in Lagos Island and the Ijagemo community in Alimosho Local Council.

The initiative seeks to address both the immediate nutritional needs of these households and raise awareness about broader food security challenges facing Nigeria.

Speaking on the project’s impact, a representative of UWGN, Deola Durodola, highlighted the importance of community-driven efforts in tackling food insecurity.

“We envision a world where all individuals and families achieve their potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives,” she said.

Zaron Cosmetics’ Team Lead, Oluwabunmi Ibitoye, added that the initiative aimed to provide essential sustenance to those in need while raising awareness of sustainable food systems and the global fight against hunger.
