Technology company, Helixus Limited, has launched Otiya, a browser-based quiz and prize-draw platform designed to make learning, knowledge sharing and social interaction more engaging.
The platform entered public beta testing in August 2026 and is accepting feedback from early users ahead of its full launch later this year.
Developed by Nigerian entrepreneur, Olalekan Obisesan, Otiya allows educators, trainers, organisations and community groups to create quizzes, host live knowledge competitions and run prize draws through a web browser without requiring participants to download an app or create an account.
Users can join live sessions from their mobile devices using a six-character code, while organisers can host events with up to 100 players without requiring account registration.
According to Helixus, the platform is designed to support a wide range of activities, including classroom learning, workplace training, conferences, youth programmes, community events and social gatherings.
Speaking on the launch, Obisesan said the platform was created to combine learning with social participation.
“We see quizzes as more than entertainment. They can help people test what they know, revisit ideas and learn together in a way that feels engaging and inclusive. We wanted Otiya to work well for someone exploring a topic independently, group activities and even larger educational, professional or community sessions,” he said.
The platform includes ready-made quizzes covering topics such as African music, history, geography, food and popular culture, while users can also create their own quizzes using customised questions and images.
Otiya also features a standalone prize-draw tool that enables organisers to conduct raffles during events, with draw results operating independently from quiz scores.
Otiya includes a standalone prize-draw feature that allows organisers to run raffles and draws during events. Quiz performance does not influence prize-draw outcomes, with both functions operating independently.
The company said the name Otiya is derived from the Yoruba expression “Ó ti yá”, commonly used to signal that it is time to begin.
The name, it said, reflects the platform’s goal of helping users quickly transform ideas and learning objectives into interactive experiences.
Obisesan, who is based in the United Kingdom, has spent more than a decade working across technology, digital product development, learning and large-scale public engagement initiatives.
He is a graduate of the Northern Max Accelerator, a technology growth programme in West Yorkshire, and leads Helixus Ltd, which develops digital products for social good and supports mission-driven organisations through technology and programme delivery.
The company is participating in the NatWest Accelerator and receives support through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s AD:VENTURE programme, a business growth initiative supporting ambitious start-ups across West Yorkshire.
“Otiya is still in beta, so user feedback is central to this stage of development,” Obisesan said. “We want to understand what people enjoy, where they encounter challenges and what improvements would make the platform even more useful before its wider launch,” he added
