The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects for vandalising a transformer along Okada Road in Minna.

Commander Adamu Abdullahi Kambra, the NSCDC commandant in Niger State, disclosed this on Friday while parading the suspects at the command headquarters on David Mark Road.

He said that the arrests followed credible intelligence received on October 23, prompting the tactical operatives of the Chanchaga division to act swiftly.

The arrested suspects are identified as Mohammed Mohammed (32), Suleiman Musa (32), and Umar Faruk Ibrahim (25). They were apprehended at the crime scene and taken into custody for further investigation.

Kambra stressed the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure, as outlined in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Act, which mandates 24-hour surveillance of federal, state, and local government facilities.

“This operation underscores the importance of collaboration between the NSCDC, other security agencies, and local vigilante groups in ensuring public safety,” Kambra stated, adding that the command will conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute the suspects.

He also praised NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi for his support and commended Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago for fostering strong collaboration and enhancing the corps’ performance in the state.

Speaking on the impact of the vandalism, Bala Mohammed Kutigi, Assistant Director of Finance at the Niger State Electricity Board, revealed that the incident has disrupted electricity supply to residents.

He applauded the NSCDC for its robust partnership with the board, which has been instrumental in addressing such challenges.
