NURTW Nasarawa denies members involvement in soldiers’ killing
The chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar, said the killer of the four soldiers at the military checkpoint is not their member.
The Guardian reports that a driver, who recklessly drove a Sharon vehicle, had crushed the soldiers earlier in the week.
Alhaji Mohammed made this known to journalists when he acknowledged receipt of the report of the brutal killings of four soldiers of 4 Special Forces Command Doma on Thursday.
Alhaji Mohammed said the vehicle and the driver are not registered with the union, claiming that the union has a register of all its members and vehicles.
Mohammed however assured security agencies of the union’s readiness to collaborate towards identifying the perpetrator who was accused of involvement in cattle rustling was at large.
“I can authoritatively reveal that the driver of Sharon vehicle with plate number 747 LAFIA is not our member, and is not a registered member or his vehicle,” the NURTW boss said.
He described the incident that led to the death of the soldiers, while others were admitted to the Lafia University Teaching Hospital, as quite unfortunate, saying: “At the time of filing this report, You will discover that the driver was not the popular driver in the Union and his vehicle was not a registered vehicle.”
It could be recalled that four soldiers of 4 special Squad, Doma were knocked down by the Sharon bus suspected to be involved in cattle rustling.
According to an eyewitness report, the soldiers were crushed to death by the Sharon bus while attempting to stop the driver conveying two cows suspected to be stolen.
According to the report, the two cows died instantly while the driver whose identity is yet to be known abandoned the vehicle and fled.
