The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has commenced “Operation Safety on Ogun’s 27 Major Traffic Corridors” ahead of, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Acting Commander of TRACE, Elias Omonayajo, disclosed this in a statement, noting that all Eid praying grounds across the 20 local councils of the state would be strategically manned by operatives for traffic control and effective parking management to ensure orderliness at entry and exit points.
He said the special patrol operation would include increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue and emergency teams, as well as intensified public advocacy campaigns to guide motorists during the festive period.
Omonayajo explained that the exercise would involve monitoring motorists and other road users, including operators of high and low-capacity vehicles, due to the expected increase in human and vehicular movement during the celebration.
The affected corridors include the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin-Ore Expressway, Sango/Ota-Atan-Owode-Idiroko Highway, Atan-Lusada-Agbara-Badagry Highway, Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange Expressway, Abeokuta-Ewekoro-Ifo-Sango/Ota Expressway, and Rounder-Abeokuta-Olorunda-Ayetoro-Imeko-Ilara Border Road, among others.
Omonayajo urged motorists to drive cautiously, exercise patience, consider other road users and obey diversion rules in areas where rehabilitation works are ongoing, particularly on the Ota-Idiroko, Sagamu-Ajebandele, Sagamu-Papalanto-Ilaro-Obelle and Ikorodu-Sagamu roads.
He stressed that the exercise was aimed at strengthening collaboration among safety and security agencies through initiatives such as the TRACE Traffic Whistle Blower Initiative, TRACE Emergency Traffic Service and the Community-Based Traffic Management Scheme, known as TRACE MAYORS.
According to him, road safety remains a shared responsibility.
The TRACE boss also directed field commanders to ensure operatives remain civil, professional, fair and firm in carrying out their duties. He advised drivers against drunk driving, excessive speeding and night travel.
Omonayajo further warned that any vehicle impounded for traffic violations during the celebration would not be released until Monday, June 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, three persons sustained injuries in an auto crash at Eleja along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The accident involved a Howo truck and a Mazda 323 taxi with registration number ABB 700 XY.
TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed in a statement that five occupants were involved in the crash, which occurred on Monday. He attributed the accident to overspeeding by the truck driver, which resulted in loss of control.
According to Akinbiyi, the Mazda taxi driver veered off the road into a bush and struck a pole while attempting to avoid a head-on collision with the truck.
He added that the victims were rescued by good Samaritans and taken to an undisclosed hospital, while the affected vehicle was evacuated by the police to the Obada Police Station for further investigation.
