
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 31-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, a resident of Laditan in the Oja-Odan area of Ogun State, on February 22, 2025, after his phone fell into a well.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m.
The state’s police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed this in a statement issued by the state command on Sunday.
CSP Odutola stated that the incident was reported by one Kabiru Aladeshayi, also a resident of the Oja-Odan community, who said he saw the late Jimoh attempting to enter the well beside his shop.
She explained, “Jimoh reportedly insisted on retrieving a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well, despite warnings against the dangerous act.
“Regrettably, while Aladeshayi was away, Jimoh entered the well and drowned.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly responded to the scene, and rescue experts were contacted to recover
the body. A preliminary investigation found no signs of violence, confirming that the incident was an unfortunate accident.
“The family of the deceased has been notified, and they requested to bury the remains under Muslim rites.
“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and urges the public to exercise caution when dealing with such hazardous situations.”
