Ogun reaffirms commitment to safety of mass transit buses
The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation for commuters in the state.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, disclosed this on Sunday in Abeokuta, noting that a series of measures are being put in place for a full-scale assessment of Bus Mass Transit (BMT) vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes the removal of buses considered unfit for purpose.
Dairo added that the state government is committed to vehicle maintenance by the operators, insisting that the Department of Vehicles Inspection Services (VIS) has been mandated to ensure strict compliance with guidelines on vehicle roadworthiness.
He explained that any BMT vehicle found not complying with the certification test at the VIS test station would be declared non-roadworthy.
He further hinted that the government is poised to introduce new buses to replace the aging ones, pledging that the new buses would be maintained in a manner consistent with global best practices to guarantee the safety and comfort of commuters.
“The safety and well-being of our people remain a top priority. We are taking decisive action to ensure that public transportation in Ogun State meets the highest standards,” Dairo stated.
