One dies, two injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway auto crash 

One person has died in an auto crash that occurred along Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Two other persons also sustained injuries from the accident, involving a  white Toyota Camry car with registration number: APP 688 JR and an unidentified truck.

Spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said three persons ( one male and two female adults) were involved in the crash that occurred on Monday.

He said the accident led to the death of one person (a female adult) and two others (one male and one female adults).

Akinbiyi stated that the crash was due to excessive speed on the part of the Toyota bus driver who rammed into the moving truck.

According to him, the agency and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and OGSAES are on ground for rescue mission.

Akinbiyi mentioned that the injured victims had been rushed to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital, while the dead body  had been deposited at the latter’s Hospital morgue.

He said the accident vehicles had been towed to Papal Oscar cage for further investigation.

In another incident , about three individuals were killed, while others sustained injuries following a brake failure  in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred around the Beere axis of the ancient city, and involved a heavy-duty trailer.
Eyewitnesses said  residents and traders were in panic as the out-of-control vehicle wreaked havoc along its path.

According to them, the articulated vehicle was descending from Beere Roundabout after passing through Oja’Oba when it developed mechanical faults.

The driver reportedly lost control as the braking system failed while approaching Beere Junction.

In the ensuing chaos, the trailer veered off course and ploughed into several road users, including cars, commercial motorcyclists and pedestrians. The impact left a trail of destruction, with multiple casualties recorded at the scene.

he worst-hit area was Iso-Osan, popularly known as Orange Market, where the vehicle rammed into shops and roadside structures, destroying goods and injuring several traders and residents.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people scampering for safety while others were trapped in the path of the speeding trailer.

Emergency responders and security personnel  arrived promptly, evacuating victims and restoring order, while also managing traffic disruptions caused by the incident.

The deceased have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured  ones were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the victims were reported to be in critical condition as of press time.

Authorities have since secured the area to prevent further casualties and facilitate ongoing rescue and recovery operations.
