One person has died and two others were injured in a road accident on Ikorodu Road in Lagos, officials said Tuesday.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis when a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus collided with a fast-moving articulated truck.
LASTMA spokesperson Taofiq Adebayo said investigations showed the bus, with registration number LND 490 SD, was recklessly vying for right of way when it rammed into the truck, plate number EKY 121 YJ.
“One passenger, seated at the doorway of the Mazda bus, was thrown from the vehicle and tragically crushed beneath the truck’s rear tyres,” Adebayo said in a statement.
Two other passengers, a man and a woman, sustained severe injuries and were taken by ambulance to Ikorodu General Hospital.
Police officers at the scene released the body of the deceased to the victim’s family, while the accidented vehicles were evacuated to ease traffic.
Adebayo extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged road users to exercise caution.
